Sustainability at Sterling Affair
Thoughtful Events, Nourishing the Earth
At Sterling Affair, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword—it’s a way of life, woven into every event we create. Since partnering with Neighborhood Compost in November 2024, we’ve composted over 5,000 lbs of food scraps—material that would’ve otherwise ended up in landfills.
This partnership reflects our deep commitment to thoughtful sourcing, waste reduction, and giving back to the land that feeds us.

The Sterling X Neighborhood Compost Loop
Our composting journey begins the moment your event ends. Every organic scrap—vegetable peels, fruit rinds, herb stems—is collected and sent to Neighborhood Compost, a woman-owned regenerative farm in northwest New Jersey. There, your leftovers don’t go to waste; they go to work.
Here’s how the cycle closes:
First, our scraps feed local livestock—goats, chickens, and alpacas all enjoy nutrient-rich leftovers.
Then, what remains is composted using a thermophilic windrow process—a natural method that transforms organic waste into fertile, chemical-free compost.
Finally, this compost nurtures fresh crops grown right at the farm, supporting a local ecosystem that gives back season after season.
It’s more than just composting. It’s full-circle sustainability.
Our Impact, Q1 2025
From January through March, we diverted 1,853 lbs of food waste from landfills. Our process maintained low contamination and minimal food waste, with only a few whole produce items and small scraps found unused.
We’re proud to say that our compost was clean, intentional, and impactful—the way it should be.
Why It Matters
By reducing methane emissions from food waste, nourishing soil without synthetic chemicals, and supporting small, local, woman-owned farms, our sustainability efforts make a tangible impact. This partnership also allows us to continuously educate our team and clients on mindful, eco-conscious practices. This is what it means to celebrate with intention—because when you host with Sterling Affair, you’re not just creating unforgettable moments, you’re contributing to a better future.
